Discover why Mexico is the glitterati’s first resort

There is much more to Mexico than you ever imagined, from sun-kissed beaches to the authentic culture of dance, music and food.

Mexico may be seen as North America’s poor relation, but as a destination it’s unparalleled. With superb weather and some amazing resorts fronting both the Caribbean and the Pacific, it is a place of wonder that must be seen first-hand on a cruise to Mexico.

Cabo San Lucas is among Mexico’s top destinations – and it’s no surprise, given its magnificent location at the southern tip of the Baja California Peninsula. Famous for its incredible beaches and superb scuba diving, it’s a mecca for lovers of water sports from around the world. It is home to an amazing array of wildlife including rays, sharks and rare fish such as the mahi-mahi and striped marlin.

Talking of wonderful beaches, Puerto Vallarta has some of the best imaginable and is legendary for its breathtakingly beautiful sunsets. But don’t forget to visit the charming old town and the bustling tourist markets whilst you’re relaxing on your Mexico cruise to discover the finest local handicrafts. There’s also a superb choice of restaurants and nightclubs along the promenade, as you would expect from one of Mexico’s most cosmopolitan cities.

Meanwhile, in the tourist resort of Huatulco on the Pacific coast, there are no fewer than nine bays, each more beautiful than the last. More than 16 miles of coastline, including 36 sandy beaches, make it a place of peace and relaxation, though there are also some excellent bars, restaurants, clubs and shops.

Leaving the mainland behind as you embark on another leg of your cruise to Mexico, you can visit the island paradise of Cozumel in the Caribbean Sea, just off the Yucatán Peninsula. The scuba diving and snorkelling here is simply stunning, whilst the island itself is covered with mangrove forest that houses innumerable animal species. Birdwatchers flock from around the world to see the Cozumel emerald, great curassow, thrasher, vireo and wren. Other local species include the critically endangered Cozumel Island coati, raccoon and fox.
